N.Y. Attorney General Sues Manhattan Stem Cell Clinic …

Defendants claim that they can treat a variety of serious medical conditions, including but not limited to, urologic diseases and erectile dysfunction, neurology diseases, cardiac/pulmonary disease, autoimmune diseases, and orthopedic conditions, even through there is currently no adequate scientific substantiation that these treatments will be effective; in fact, they could be harmful, according to the lawsuit.

On its website, the clinic promotes what it describes as personal cell therapy to use your own cells to start or enhance your own healing process. The site goes on to promise you will lead a life that is more meaningful and pain-free with services that will change your life and lifestyle.

It lists what it claims is scientific literature suggesting these cells may represent a medical breakthrough in the treatment of many chronic medical conditions.

Patients would pay $3,995 or more for a stem cell procedure, according to the lawsuit. Many people thought they were part of a patient-funded research study, and regulators accused the clinic of giving patients the false impression that the treatments were part of a study approved by the F.D.A.

The clinic emphasized its research, including a long list of reference articles and studies, according to the lawsuit. Such claims overstate the scientific legitimacy of the clinics treatments, the regulators said.

Regulators also say Dr. Singer is operating a GoFundMe fund-raising campaign to perform stem cell treatments for free. Not only chronic pain, but other ailments such as post traumatic brain syndrome, autoimmune diseases, orthopedic injuries and other ailments can be helped by this amazing procedure, the campaign promises. So far, Dr. Singer appears not to have raised any money.

Since being contacted by state regulators, the clinic has revised its website and added numerous disclaimers, but state officials say consumers had a net impression that stem cells were an effective treatment for these various conditions. The website also appears to have been further changed to solely emphasize orthopedic conditions like arthritis or joint disease.

I am a pain management physician myself. I am 52, and physically very active. I still play soccer competitively. Six months ago I suffered a hip injury with a labrum tear. Due to the pre-existing wear and tear, the only conventional treatment, which was offered to me was total hip replacement. I wanted to remain physically active and continue to play sports, so I decided that this is not the best option for me. I choose instead to try stem-cell therapy. Ten days ago I had my procedure done by Dr. Brandt, and since then I have nothing but positive things to say about him and his practice. Everyone in his office was extremely welcoming and put me at ease and comfort about my procedure. The procedure went very smooth. And I did not have ANY post procedure pain or discomfort. I had no need for any pain medication. I was back to work seeing patients on the 2nd day after the procedure. My hip already feels noticeably better. I have the second procedure scheduled in four weeks, and I am confident that in another 3-4 weeks I'll be back playing soccer again. Thank you, Dr. Brandt and team for taking such excellent care of me.

Do you have an idea of the natural healing potential that is available in your body?

Read on to find out where your body stores these powerful stem cells.

Adult stem cells are found in the highest concentration in adipose (fat) tissue. In smaller concentrations, they are additionally found in your bone marrow. Beyond what is used for harvesting, stem cells are also found in blood, skin, muscles, and organs.

Adipose tissue provides the largest volume of adult stem cells (1,000 to 2,000 times the number of cells per volume found in bone marrow). Bone marrow provides some stem cells but more importantly provides a large volume of growth factors to aid in the repair process. In addition to adult stem cells, fat tissue also contains numerous other regenerative cells that are important to the healing process.

Stem cells derived from adipose fat tissue have been shown to be a much better source for the repair of cartilage degeneration and recent studies have demonstrated its superior ability to differentiate into cartilage.

There are some myths and misconceptions about stem cells and where the cells come from. Dr. Brandt has dedicated a blog post to the important topic.

Cardiac-Pulmonary Conditions

Led by Melvin M. Propis, M.D., South Florida Stem Cell Center is one of theleading Stem Cell Regenerative Therapy Clinics in South Florida. Dr. Propis is a seasoned M.D. and surgeon who has had solid success rates.

Stem Cell Regenerative Therapy is a breakthrough in medical science that treats and prevents conditions and diseases using stem cells. This is accomplished by harvesting cells and then concentrating those cells in a lab before precisely re-injecting them. This greatly increases your bodys own natural repair cells and promotes healing.

South Florida Stem Cell Center is made up of research scientists and experts in Stem Cell Therapy. Our passion and belief is that our treatments truly helpthose that are suffering and need our help.

I injured both of my knees. After confirming that the cartilage was still in the joint, Dr. Propis injected my knees with a mixture of stem cells and PRP 4 months ago. Today I walk comfortably, No pain in those joints. I have noticed significant improvement in my balance and no longer need a walker or narcotics for pain.

I have had Crohns disease for most of my short life which has led me to miss out on many teenage activities. After seeing other patients improve from having stem cells injected, I (and my mother) decided to try it. It was a wonderful thing to gradually be able to discontinue giving myself Humara shots routinely. I can actually have an active social life without worrying and even married the love of my life last year. Thanking my doctor, mom, God, and the many people who believe in stem cells for my happy ending!

I flew to the US in hopes of getting help for my diabetes. Having tried medicine & diets with no results, I was ready to try stem cells. After 1 treatment (and a six month period) I am off all meds and not considered diabetic anymore. To me, life changing! Especially after a relatively simple procedure. Thank you to the office of Dr. Propis and staff.

Mayo Clinic Q and A: Stem cell therapy for arthritis …

DEAR MAYO CLINIC: Whats the latest information on using stem cell therapy to treat an arthritic shoulder that causes excessive pain?

ANSWER: New efforts in regenerative medicine, including stem cell therapy, could dramatically affect orthopedic surgery over the coming years. Much of this hope is pinned on using stem cells to treat degenerative conditions such as shoulder arthritis. Although it shows promise, stem cell treatment for arthritis isnt widely available at this time, as its still being researched.

Stem cells are the basic building blocks of all human tissue. Stem cells hold potential as treatment, in part, because they can communicate valuable information about tissue growth and healing to other cells in the body. Arthritis involves joint degeneration due to loss of the cartilage that cushions bones. Recently researchers have begun to look to stem cells for orthopedic conditions such as shoulder arthritis. Progress using stem cells to treat arthritis already has been reported, with the ultimate goal of using stem cells to regrow cartilage.

When discussing stem cell therapy, its important to understand that pure stem cells are not currently available to U.S. patients outside of a clinical research study. A handful of clinical research trials, monitored by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), are ongoing at this time to study stem cell treatment for arthritis. The early findings from these trials are encouraging.

Unfortunately, the excitement surrounding emerging stem cell therapy has led some patients and health care providers to overlook the lack of scientific evidence to support its use at this time. Stem cell therapies currently used outside clinical studies do not contain pure stem cells. Instead, they are a mix of a variety of cells, of which only a very small percentage are stem cells. It is possible that many of these treatments do not contain enough stem cells to help.

It is also important to recognize that many stem cell therapies now marketed directly to patients are conducted without the required biologics license from the FDA. Also, some forms of mislabeled stem cell therapies do not contain any living stem cells. Such practices are cause for concern, as these treatments can mislead patients and the public, and delay the scientific progress needed to turn stem cell therapies into cures.

What the research into stem cells and arthritis shows is that there are opportunities for stem cell treatment to be used as injection therapy alone and in addition to orthopedic surgical procedures. Successful stem cell therapies thus far have resulted mostly in pain relief and improvement in function or quality of life. Only a few limited early studies have demonstrated improvement in new cartilage or bone formation needed to cure arthritis. Exactly how that cartilage regrowth occurs, or even how pain relief is achieved, is still unknown. That means if you have a stem cell procedure, it will be used to treat the symptoms of arthritis only. The ability to cure the disease entirely is not yet available.

No major research studies have specifically investigated stem cell treatment for shoulder arthritis. Much of what is known about stem cells in arthritis comes from research into knee degeneration. Its not known if the successes treating knee arthritis will prove to be similarly beneficial when used for the shoulder. Therefore, current recommendations to treat shoulder arthritis remain the judicious use of gentle pain relievers, exercise and occasional steroid injections. In severe cases, shoulder replacement can provide long-lasting pain relief.

With demonstrable safety and mounting evidence of the effectiveness of stem cell therapy for some orthopedic conditions, potentially all orthopedic disease could be treated with stem cell therapy in the future. But, first, doctors and patients will have to wait until the scientific evidence catches up to the excitement around this promising option. COPD and stem cell treatment | Mayo Clinic Connect

I have been trying to find some actual people who have tried any of the Stem Cell treatments being offered. Especially interested in the Cellular Therapy being offered at many clinics in the USA. Not knowing who or what to believe is very difficult. I have also heard that Aloe Vera is an effective treatment that can help immensely I don't know how much of this is true either. I am on oxygen therapy 24/7 and my nose runs so much that I am desperate. I have tried Saline Solution, Sesame seed oil, Aloe Vera from the plant inside my nose. I have a humidity container on my oxygen consentrator and also a humidifier in my bedroom. I have been trying to take off the oxygen for an hour or so every few hours but my oxygen gets low and I go into A-fib. Nothing has worked to stop my runny nose. It truly makes me want to just give up. I am also in remission for stage 3B lung cancer since August 2018.

Stem Cell Clinic Treatment Jupiter FL Alternative …

Umbilical cord cells include stem cells, growth factors and a range of other beneficial proteins and compounds. We use blood from the umbilical cord which has been purified to get rid of any harmful substances that might cause rejection of the treatment by your body. We inject the treated cord blood into the affected area, where the various active compounds found in cord cells go to work immediately to begin inflammation reduction and the promotion of healthy cell division and renewal. Some of the active compounds at work include VEGF (Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor), IL-LRA (Interleukin-1, a receptor antagonist, stem cell factors (SCF), FGF-2 (Fibroblast Growth Factor-2) and Transforming Growth Factor-beta (TGF-beta). Each of these compounds has a slightly different effect, but the net result is that the damaged cells in your joints are given the ingredients they need to kick-start healthy renewal and regeneration. The injection changes the chemistry inside the joint, creating a healthier environment that encourages positive, healing changes to take place. A better blood supply to the area, a reduction in damaging chronic inflammation and stimulation of healthy tissue growth are all typical consequences of the minimally invasive stem cell treatments we provide. By using umbilical cord cells in this way, its possible to transform joint therapy into a holistic healing process that prompts the body to enhance its own regenerative efforts. This results in a natural process of joint health improvement in the weeks or months following the injection.

Is This Stem-Cell Clinic Really Making Cancer Vaccines …

Stem cell treatments usually involve sucking out some of a patients fat tissue, isolating the stem cells within, and reinjecting them into the patients body.

Getty Images

On the first Saturday of March, Kristin Comella put on a white doctors coat and took the stage at the fourth annual conference for the Academy of Regenerative Practices. The founder and president of the academy, Comella also oversees an expanding empire of stem cell clinics that promise patients cures for most anything that ails them. None of those treatmentsfor everything from diabetes and asthma to multiple sclerosis and arthritishave been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration.

The procedurewhich costs a few thousand dollarsis always pretty much the same, regardless of its purported target. It involves sucking out some of a patients fat tissue with a liposuction needle, isolating the stem cells within, and reinjecting them into the patients body. The simplicity of the procedure is why people like Comella say its insane for the FDA to try to regulate stem cells.

So it was surprising when she announced onstage that her firm, US Stem Cell, had recently begun developing a radically new kind of treatmentthis time, for cancer.

Your stem cells are antigen-presenting cells, Cormella told the audience, in a Facebook live video the company posted of the event. We can make them express a protein from your specific cancer. So, its an individualized cancer vaccine, if you will. US Stem Cell, a publicly traded firm that sells stem cell separation kits and operates one of the largest networks of clinics in the country, achieved this with something called an electroporation protocol, she said.

Electroporation is essentially zapping cells with electricitya microbiology technique used to get drugs, proteins, or, most commonly, DNA into cells. When I hear electroporation, thats equal to genetic modification, says Paul Knoepfler, a stem cell researcher at UC Davis. Thats what we do when we want cells to permanently express a protein.

Knoepfler writes a blog about stem cells, and thats where he surfaced the video on May 9, after an acquaintance tipped him off. Hes sort of a watchdog for the industry. Since 2011, hes tracked the proliferation of unregulated stem cell clinics and followed US Stem Cells cavalier approach to experimenting on its patients, sometimes to disastrous effect. In 2015, one of its clinics injected liposuction-derived stem cells directly into the eyeballs of three elderly women suffering from age-related macular degeneration. All three went blind, two sued, and US Stem Cell settled out of court.

But this, he says, might be the most dangerous thing hes seen yet. If my assumption is correct that theyre introducing DNA, this is up near the top of the riskiest things Ive ever heard a stem cell clinic doing, he says. The big worry here is giving cancer patients another cancer, or a dangerous immune response."

US Stem Cell did not respond to WIREDs questions about the procedure, so its still unclear if it does indeed involve genetic modification and whether any patients have actually been treated with it. In the video Comella only described it as one of the companys current protocols.

What we do know is that the approach sounds similar to a powerful new class of anti-cancer medicines known as CAR-T therapies. They involve extracting a patients immune cells and genetically rewiring them to more effectively recognize and attack cancerous cells in the body. The FDA approved the first CAR-T, Kymriah, in late 2017 after scrutinizing years of data from animal studies and human clinical trials. Novartis claims it spent $1 billion to get the treatment to market.

Compare that with the $6,664 US Stem Cell reported having spent last year on research and development. The companyformerly named Biohearthas nine clinical trials listed on the national registry ClinicalTrials.gov, none of which are actively recruiting and none of which are for cancer treatments. Though listed as the lead investigator on some of the trials, Comella isnt a medical doctor. She received a three-year online PhD in stem cell biology from the Panama College of Cell Sciencea non-accredited virtual university founded by stem cell evangelist Walter Drake, according to reporting by the LA Times. And shes not afraid to spar with the federal government.

Last August the FDA sent a warning letter to US Stem Cell and to Comella, specifically, for significant deviations from good practices. And after Comella responded with a letter of her own, denying FDA has any jurisdiction to regulate her companys activities, the agency followed up with a lawsuit.

On May 9, the FDA along with the Department of Justice filed a complaint seeking a permanent injunction against US Stem Cell and Comella, accusing them of endangering patient safety and failing to meet manufacturing standards for cell therapies. The federal officials also filed a similar lawsuit against another clinicCalifornia Stem Cell Treatment Centerwhich was involved in giving patients an experimental cancer treatment made from a mix of stem cells and a smallpox vaccine inappropriately acquired from a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stockpile under the auspices of research. When officials found out they were being administered to patients, US marshals raided the clinic and seized the remaining vials.

Both California Stem Cell Treatment Center and US Stem Cell said in public statements they plan to fight the injunctions, the most aggressive volley yet in the conflict surrounding direct-to-consumer stem cell treatments. At the heart of the clash is the phrase minimally manipulated, which the FDA uses to exempt therapies like bone marrow transplants. Both clinics will likely argue in court that their cell-based treatments fit that description. But Comellas recent statements at the conference could undermine this claim. Electroporation is a tool designed explicitly for cellular manipulation, and theres nothing minimal about it.

Holistic medicine considers a person to be a functional unit. The disease symptoms are signs of disruption in the system of the body. By activating the bodys ability of self-regulation we can eliminate this disruption. In Swiss Medica XXI Century S.A. we seek the cause of the disease, and provide a setting: to allow the body to use its own powers of self-healing to overcome the disease.

Our primary task is to make your own cells treat your own body. We use advanced technology to activate dormant cells (adipose mesenchymal stem cells) to differentiate into the cells we need, and then to replace the damaged cells. Symptoms become less prominent and disappear.

I am very very happy with all the care that I received and I recommend this treatment to anybody who want to give it a go. Come and have an open mind and meet these wonderful people who will treat you gently and with respect.

Ill always be grateful. Thank you.

Well, the first month went well. I regained my psychophysical energy, especially in the sport I practice, I felt an improvement.

Now I hope, I hope that in the future, and the doctors tell me that it is better, I hope that in the future I'll feel all the better.

It's all been very nice, everybody has been very kind.

I don't think that anyone could fail to be impressed by the level of service and treatments and expertise everyone seems to have here, and, obviously, having medical treatment is not something that people want to have, but at the same time it's been as enjoyable as it could be to do that.
